A War Veteran’s Story
by I.G.Hughes, published by Oakwood Press

This is the history of Hunslet 4-6-0T No.1215 which was one of a class of 155 locomotives of 600mm gauge built for the British War Department for use during World War I in France. They were used to move troops, casualties, shells, rations and other supplies over a network of over 3,000 miles of track.
After the war No.1215 went to Bingera Sugar Mill, Bundaberg, Qld in 1924, then to Invicta Sugar Mill, Giru in 1956. It was out of use by 1964 and was subsequently on display at a location in Townsville. It was returned to England in 2005 and is currently at the Apedale Heritage Centre, North Staffordshire, where work is under way to return it to service.
