This is a 16Mb pdf file containing page images of the first 20 issues of Light Railways (but the name Light Railways was not used until issue No.13). The text is searchable from issue No.8.

The earliest issues were extremely crude both in presentation and content. The first three were not published by the Victorian Light Railway Research Society. They were printed on a 1912 Edison Rotary Mimeograph which had parts missing and did not work very well! Issue No. 4 was the first to be published by the Victorian Light Railway Research Society and was typed (twice) with several carbon copies on thin paper, and the quality was terrible! The four issues total 12 foolscap (13 x 8 inch) pages.

Issue No.5 was known as The Shenley Valley Railway Quarterly Review but was published by the Victorian Light Railway Research Society. From issue No.6 the title was Victorian Light Railway Research Society Quarterly Review. Issues Nos 5 and 6 were typed (twice) with several carbon copies on thin paper, and the quality was terrible! Issue No.7 was mostly printed on a Fordigraph spirit duplicator, and issue No.8 was printed on a flat bed duplicator. The four issues total 28 foolscap (13 x 8 inch) pages.

Issue Nos 9 to 12 were printed on an ancient Gestetner flat-bed duplicator. The four issues total 30 foolscap (13 x 8 inch) pages.

Issue 13 was the first issues to be published on the 6.5 x 8 inch (half-foolscap format), and the first to be called “Light Railways”. There was a two-and-a-half year break between the publication of No.14 and No.15 when the Society almost faded away. Issue No.15 marked a renaissance in the Society, though you would not know that by looking at it!
