Railways of the Ovens & King
By Nick Anchen
Published 2015 by Sierra Publishing, Melbourne
148 pages, measuring 285mm (W) x 225mm (H), casebound in glossy boards, 159 photographs, mostly in colour, line diagrams and gradient profiles.
This book is primarily a pictorial history of the railways to Beechworth/Yackandandah, Bright and the narrow gauge line to Whitfield. Supporting text places the images into an historical context. Images cover the lifespan of the lines as well as more recent photographs post-closure. Many of the images have not been previously published. Design and production are up to Sierra’s usual high standard.
Whilst naturally the broad gauge Victorian Railways branches consume the majority of the pages, there are 30 or so pages dedicated to the VR narrow gauge Whitfield branch, with many previously unseen photographs.
